CSS was conceived in an age when Web site design was simple; its creators never anticipated the level of intricacy required in the designs that it would be asked to deliver today. Clever designers figured out ways to make CSS do what they needed, but using techniques so convoluted that it became unpredictable and difficult to master.

Just so you know, I hate CSS. I'm convinced CSS was created simply as a way to get back at geeks and make us insane. So, factor that in when you read my comments on this book. I believe everything you know about CSS is wrong, simply because there's nothing quite right about CSS. But, that said, this is an interesting book, showcasing some interesting techniques for CSS development. There are some issues about whether it's more important to be true to the CSS design definition or make sure your Web site can display correctly in all popular browsers, but this book is definitely worth a read.
It's not a must on every bookshelf, like the next book, but it's worth reading.
